Two Weeks of Vacation Outfits in One Carry-On
A twelve-piece packing system that produces fourteen distinct outfits.

The reason suitcases overflow is that most people pack fourteen outfits for fourteen days. Pack a system instead: one palette, twelve pieces, three shoes. The combinatorics do the work and you stop carrying clothes you never put on.
The hero look — a sage linen peplum top with charcoal wide linen trousers — is the template: two breathable pieces in the same neutral family, finished with flat sandals or slides and a woven bag. The four looks below show how the same capsule stretches from beach days to city evenings.

1. Linen top and wide trousers
The fastest warm-weather outfit in the capsule. A sage or sand linen top with bell or three-quarter sleeves, tucked or peplumed over charcoal wide linen trousers. Add a woven bag and flat sandals — the creases are part of the look.
- Top
- Sage or sand linen peplum or camp shirt
- Bottom
- Charcoal wide linen trousers
- Shoes
- Flat leather sandals or slides
- Bag
- Woven leather tote or crossbody
Why it works — Two linen pieces in adjacent neutrals read as one outfit without matching exactly. Wide legs and breathable fabric handle heat; the structure comes from the waist, not from layering.

2. Resort crop top and tiered skirt
For poolside lunches and beach bars. A white structured crop top with a butter-yellow tiered maxi skirt, flat sandals and one flower or simple gold chain — romantic without packing a separate dress.
- Top
- White crop top or fitted tee
- Bottom
- Pale yellow tiered maxi skirt
- Shoes
- Flat strappy sandals
- Extras
- One hair flower or fine gold necklace
Why it works — A tiered skirt moves on its own; pairing it with a plain top keeps the volume in one place. Pale yellow and white stay inside a sand-and-cream palette that works with everything else in the bag.

3. Beach tiered skirt and lace top
Sunset dinners on the sand. A cream tiered maxi skirt with a lavender or white lace top, flat wrap sandals and a straw crossbody. The skirt doubles as a cover-up over swimwear during the day.
- Top
- Lace or embroidered camisole top
- Bottom
- Cream tiered maxi skirt with lace trim
- Shoes
- Tan wrap sandals
- Bag
- Small straw crossbody
Why it works — One skirt serves as cover-up and evening bottom. The lace top supplies the dressiness; the flat sandal keeps it practical on uneven ground.

4. City maxi dress, belt and kitten heel
The city-break piece. A cream polka-dot or printed maxi with a tan belt, white kitten heels and a small top-handle bag covers canal-side walking and dinner without a second outfit.
- Dress
- Cream maxi with a subtle print, belted
- Shoes
- White kitten heel or dressy flat
- Bag
- Small structured top-handle
- Extras
- Cat-eye sunglasses, one gold chain
Why it works — One dress replaces a top-and-bottom combination on travel days when you want to look finished without thinking. The belt and heel do the evening switch — swap them for sandals and it reads as daytime.
The twelve pieces
- Two pairs of bottoms: one linen wide trouser, one tiered maxi skirt or straight jean.
- One maxi dress that reads as day or evening with a shoe change.
- Three tops: a linen peplum or camp shirt, a fitted tee or crop, a lace or camisole layer.
- One fine knit for flights and air-conditioned evenings.
- One light jacket or trench for cooler nights.
- Swimwear, plus one cover-up that is not a towel.
Three shoes, no more
A flat sandal for the day, a comfortable sneaker or walking flat for cobblestones, and one dressier sandal or low heel for dinner. Wear the bulkiest pair on the flight. Shoes are the single biggest cause of an overweight bag.
One palette, no exceptions
Choose a neutral base — ecru, white, sand, sage, navy — and one accent colour. Every top must work with every bottom. This is the whole trick, and it is the rule people break first.
