What to Wear This Spring
Five outfits for mild days and unpredictable weather.

Spring is the season of miscalculation — you leave the house in a coat and come home carrying it, or you skip the layer and regret it by evening. The fix is not more clothes; it is lighter layers, breathable fabric and a palette that reads fresh without looking like summer arrived early.
The five looks below handle a temperature swing: a vest instead of a jacket, sheer fabric instead of a heavy knit, a denim maxi that moves without trapping heat. Swap the shoe and most of these work from March through May.

1. Crochet top and tiered maxi
The default when the sun is out but the breeze still has an edge. A white crochet crop top with a sage tiered maxi skirt, ballet flats and a straw crossbody bag. The open knit breathes; the long skirt keeps the legs covered without a heavy layer.
- Top
- White crochet crop top
- Skirt
- Sage tiered maxi skirt
- Shoes
- Nude ballet flats
- Bag
- Straw crossbody
Why it works — Crochet adds texture without weight. A tiered maxi moves in wind and covers bare legs on cooler mornings — one piece that reads dressy without structure.

2. Floral ruffle dress in the garden
For outdoor lunches, flower markets and anywhere you want print without a full floral wardrobe. A ruffled floral mini dress with flat sandals and minimal jewellery — romantic and easy to layer with a light cardigan if the shade turns cold.
- Dress
- Ruffled floral mini dress, pink and green print
- Shoes
- Flat leather sandals
- Optional
- Light cardigan tied at the waist
Why it works — One dress replaces a top-and-skirt combination. Ruffles and floral print read spring immediately; a mini length keeps it from feeling heavy before the heat arrives.

3. Peplum vest and floral maxi
When you want colour without committing to head-to-toe print. A pink peplum vest over a floral tulle maxi skirt, with a structured green bag and low heels. The vest gives shape; the sheer maxi keeps the look light.
- Top
- Pink peplum vest
- Skirt
- Floral tulle maxi skirt
- Bag
- Structured green top-handle bag
- Shoes
- Low block heels
Why it works — Separates let you dial print up or down. A peplum waist defines the silhouette without a belt; tulle adds movement without the bulk of a lined skirt.

4. Sheer tunic and wide jeans
City days when you need denim but not winter weight. A sheer white tunic over a camisole, paired with wide light-wash jeans and white sneakers. Roll the cuffs once if the hem pools on the shoe.
- Top
- Sheer white tunic over a nude camisole
- Denim
- Wide light-wash jeans
- Shoes
- White leather sneakers
Why it works — Sheer fabric reads spring without bare arms. Wide-leg light denim balances the volume of the tunic and stays away from the leg as afternoons warm up.

5. Tube top and denim maxi
For warmer spring afternoons when you want edge without a heavy layer. A black strapless tube top with a low-rise grey denim maxi skirt, a wide statement belt at the hips and chunky platform boots. Rectangular sunglasses and a small black bag finish it.
- Top
- Black strapless tube top
- Skirt
- Grey denim maxi skirt, low rise, frayed hem
- Belt
- Wide statement belt with metallic disc detail
- Shoes
- Chunky black platform boots
Why it works — A tube top keeps the shoulders free once the sun is out; a long denim skirt covers the leg without a coat. The belt breaks up the column and gives the low-rise silhouette a deliberate line.
Three rules that cover most of spring
- Carry one layer you can remove by midday — open shirt, vest or light knit over the shoulders.
- Favour sage, cream, light denim and soft pink over heavy black head to toe until the evenings warm up.
- Choose cotton, linen blends and open knits — if you would wear it in August, it is probably too light for a March morning.
