What to Wear This Autumn
Four outfits for layering season — texture, mid-weight knits and wider denim.

Autumn is the season where men's streetwear and smart casual converge — fuzzy knits, wide-leg denim, crossbody bags and trainers that balance a heavier top half. After months of shorts and tees, you get texture and proportion back.
The four looks below use chocolate brown, sage, dusty blue and faded denim in relaxed silhouettes. Each one layers a tee under a knit and lets the trouser do the volume work.

1. Ribbed knit and wide denim
The urban autumn default. A chocolate brown ribbed V-neck sweater over a white tee, ultra-wide faded jeans that pool slightly at the shoe, white sneakers and a black crossbody bag.
- Knit
- Chocolate brown ribbed V-neck sweater
- Base
- White crew-neck tee, visible at collar and hem
- Denim
- Ultra-wide faded jeans
- Shoes
- White low-top sneakers
- Bag
- Black leather crossbody messenger
Why it works — A ribbed knit adds texture without a jacket. Wide faded denim balances the volume of the sweater; a crossbody bag keeps hands free on city days.

2. Sage fuzzy knit and light denim
Coffee-run casual. A sage fuzzy crew-neck sweater over a white tee, light-wash wide-leg jeans, cream canvas sneakers and a black backpack. Glasses tucked into the collar when you are not wearing them.
- Knit
- Sage fuzzy crew-neck sweater
- Base
- White tee at the hem
- Denim
- Light-wash wide-leg jeans
- Shoes
- Cream canvas low-top sneakers
- Extras
- Black backpack
Why it works — Mohair-blend knits read autumn without bulk. Light denim keeps the outfit from feeling heavy; sage and cream are the softer end of the autumn palette.

3. Blue knit and wide jeans
Streetwear-influenced but clean. A dusty blue fuzzy sweater over a white tee, light-wash wide-leg jeans and blue-toned chunky sneakers. A leather-strap watch is enough jewellery.
- Knit
- Dusty blue fuzzy crew-neck sweater
- Base
- White tee at the hem
- Denim
- Light-wash wide-leg jeans
- Shoes
- Blue chunky sneakers
Why it works — Tonal blue from knit to trainer reads intentional without matching exactly. Wide jeans and a fuzzy knit are the current autumn silhouette — relaxed but put together.

4. Cardigan, turtleneck and black denim
Smart casual on crisp autumn days. A grey ribbed cardigan worn open over a black turtleneck tucked into straight black jeans, with a black leather belt and polished black dress shoes.
- Layer
- Grey ribbed knit cardigan, worn open
- Base
- Black turtleneck, tucked
- Denim
- Black straight-leg jeans
- Shoes
- Polished black leather dress shoes
- Belt
- Black leather belt with silver buckle
Why it works — A cardigan replaces a coat on mild autumn afternoons — texture at the chest without bulk. All black underneath keeps the line sharp; grey adds depth without breaking the monochrome.
Three rules that cover most of autumn
- Layer a tee under every knit — it adds length at the hem and saves the sweater from deodorant and washing.
- Wide-leg denim is the autumn trouser — balance it with a fitted or cropped knit on top.
- One fuzzy knit in sage, one in brown and one in blue covers most of September through November.
